Napkin with Messi's signature goes up for auction for millions of dollars

 On December 14, 2000, Lionel Messi , still young, signed his inaugural contract with Barcelona. The contract that established the partnership with the player who would become one of the biggest names in football history was written on a paper napkin that will be auctioned for the initial value of 350 thousand euros (around R$1.9 million). 


The event is scheduled for May 18th to 27th and will be held at the Bonhams auction house in New York, United States. 

There was no paper available, so this paper napkin represents the first informal contract. It's a unique and tangible reminder of the beginning of Messi's incredible football journey,” Ian Ehling, director of books and manuscripts at Bonham's New York, told Spain's La Vanguardia newspaper.

Handwritten by Barcelona representatives, the contract was signed by Messi at just 13 years old . Along with the Argentine prodigy, Carles Rexach, at the time the Catalan club's technical director, Josep Maria Minguella and Horacio Gaggiogli, the player's agents, also put their signatures on the napkin. 

The napkin was preserved by Horacio Gaggioli, Messi's agent and representative from his discovery in Argentina until his signing by Barcelona, ​​with the consent of the boy's parents.
